Families Change Guide to Separation & Divorce

The FamiliesChange.ca website was developed by the Justice Education Society of British Columbia with support from the Department of Justice, Canada and the BC Ministry of Justice.

In order to produce FamiliesChange.ca as a national website, the Justice Education Society worked with representatives from government and public legal education and information organizations across Canada. We thank the organizations below for their extensive contributions for each of their provinces.

In developing this information, the Justice Education Society depended on numerous sources of information. We thank the many psychologists, family counsellors, justice counsellors, lawyers, parents and children who helped to develop and review the content of the site.

The FamiliesChange.ca website explains the law in a general way and provides guidance on dealing with emotional changes that may occur with separation and divorce. The site does not provide legal advice – if you need advice, see a lawyer. Similarly, if you need help to deal with your family situation, consult a psychologist or counsellor. The Resources section within each province provides contact information for you to get help.
